Living Room Ceiling Lights
The living room is where most families spend most of their time relaxing. It is therefore important that the lighting in this room creates a warm, welcoming feel and provides adequate light for a range of activities including watching TV, entertaining friends and reading.
Using a number of different light sources works well here to ensure all areas are well lit. For the main ceiling light, dimmer switches offer the most versatile solution, allowing the light to be lowered or raised as required. Choose a beautiful pendant light fitting for the centre of the room that is in keeping with your chosen décor. There is an excellent choice of pendants on the market, made from glass, metal and crystal, in both contemporary and traditional styles. Make sure the fitting you choose is right for the size of the room. A large living room will need a light fitting that is big enough not to get lost in the space.
Add to this a number of wall lights to evenly distribute the light out from the centre. Uplighters work well as they throw the light up to the ceiling, where it is then reflected back down, creating a flattering wash of light.
Finally choose complementary floor or table lamps for soft ambient lighting, perfect for creating a romantic setting. These should be placed close to seating so that they can double up as useful light sources for reading and close up work.
