Picking Art For a Living Room Design Inspiration
By Jessica Ackerman - Ezinearticles

Good decorators find launching pads for their room decor in the most ordinary places. Using something to refer to as your visual inspiration can help keep your design on track. By selecting a canvas painting that you already love to design your living room around, you have seen that the colors work well together, so you can probably make truly inspired color choices than you normally would for your design.

Hues that Function Well Together

So the first thing that you can do with your inspiration painting is choose your color scheme from the colors used in the inspiration piece. As you look at your inspiration painting, use the principle hue as your living room's main accent color. Then look at the other hues in the painting, so you can select a couple more for your decor. The remaining two hues will be a pale, neutral color to paint your walls and then any other color to use as another accent color. Especially if you are not great at combining colors, the artist of your inspiration painting has already taken care of that for you, so using a piece of art is a perfect way to choose your room's color palette.

Echoing the Painting's Theme

Selecting some of the pieces from your painting to use in your room design is another way to include your inspiration painting into your living room's overall decor. You may decide to create a beach inspired design in your living room if your artwork is of waves washing up on the shore. The natural thing that happens when you use an inspiration painting for your room's design is that your hues and your theme will naturally go flawlessly together. Since you are selecting colors from your painting for all of the elements in your room, all of your decor will be flawlessly coherent making your living room look like it was designed by a professional. While you are using tones from your picture throughout you living room design, you can also employ patterns and foliage to create your designer look. For example, if you have a cactus in your Arizona painting, then including a cactus in your room's finishing touches is a great way to unify your design.

Employing your Inspiration Painting as a Focal Point

Hanging your inspiration piece on the wall serves to unite the colors and decor in your living room while creating a focal wall. When you have a larger sized picture, it can serve as the focal point for your living room design. If your inspiration painting is on the smaller side, you can combine it with other paintings to design an impressive focal display. For example, if your inspiration picture is a seashore scene, you may opt to fashion your focal point as a single shelf holding the wall decoration along with other beach items like seashells and a glass bowl filled with a sea grass display.
